How film openings attract an audience

Title sequence

The purpose of a film opening is that the audience gets an idea of the cast and crew that is involved in the film making. The title sequence also promotes the actors and the directors of the film. The sequence can also give the audience an idea of the genre of the film.

Film opening

The purpose of a film opening and title sequence are similar as they both include some titles and film credits. However, the film opening normally sets a scene of the film with an establishing shot, this also helps the audience understand what genre it is. The film opening also gives an insight to what the film is about.

Establishing shots

Establishing shots set the scene (Location) and the time period (Past, Present or Future) the film is set in. The establishing shot also shows the distribution of a film. The opening shot can also establish the main character of a film.

The use of sound

Through the use of sound they can also attract audiences. In my previous blog posts I talked about how important sound is in film. This could mean good soundtracks, or good sound effects.
