Importance of sound

Importance of sound

What is sound: Sound is produced by vibrations that are continuous / regular.

In film sound is used to establish a clear tone or atmosphere. It can also be used to help give the audience a better idea about the plot, characters or to identify the genre of the film. World famous director George Lukas, director of Star Wars argues that sound is 50%, meaning that sound is just as important as the actual filming.

When watching a title sequence without sound it was very boring, I was not very interested in watching the movie and i had a bad understanding of the plot of the film. However, when watching the same title sequence again but this time with sound I felt more alert and was not as easily distracted because I was interested and had a good understanding of the plot of the movie.
