Kyle Cooper is accredited with single-handedly making title sequences an art form. He believes that a good title sequence; evokes the tone of the film, brings the audience into the world of the film and sparks excitement amongst the audience.
In Seven the font is of much importance, The handwritten typography represents the serial killer character and his journal.
Two of Cooper's favored title sequences are "Deadzone" and "To Kill a Mocking Bird".
Cooper describes Deadzone's title sequence as mysterious and appreciates the simple typography.
Cooper said that the title sequence of To Kill a Mocking Bird is: beautifully photographed, the use of props really focuses on the protagonist's obsessions and that the layout is interesting- the contrast of the horizontal text and the spherical objects work well together and does not make the writing look like an after thought.
Story based titles according to Cooper means a title sequence that has a pun that is relevant to the story and provides a specific back story to the film.
After audience test screening, a studio might face problems such as the test audience may not understand certain aspects of the film which leads to the other problem of budget-there may not be enough funds to add in extra scenes. These problems are why the 2 and a half minutes of the title sequence become important for the studio. It is used to advance the plot and create content in a smaller amount of time.
